Training Tips for Summer

Summer is almost here, so it’s time to start getting our beach body ready. I’m sure plenty of you have gone into a mini winter-hibernation, but that time has come to an end.

We’ve got a few tips for helping you train hard and earn your beach body!

Join a Sports Team

With the sun out and the warm weather, why not join a sporting team? Indoors or outdoors, it doesn’t matter, but the warm weather should make it much easier for you to get motivated for the games.

Starting or joining a sports team is a great way to hang out with your friends, or make new friends. There’s plenty of options out there from soccer to basketball to cricket.

Sign up For a Fun Run

We’ve posted a large collection of training events in Melbourne that are happening over the next few months, and they can be great for that bit of extra motivation. When you sign up for a fun run or an event like Tough Mudder, you have a date to aim for. Without the deadline of these events, it can be easy to slack off with your training.

When it comes to these events, they’re all about having fun! There’s nothing to stop you from racing against other people there, but the focus of these events is having fun!

Sign up to an event and give it a shot — you’ll have great fun doing it!

Limit Your Alcohol Intake

Sunny weather undoubtedly leads to barbecues with your friends and a few cheeky drinks, but try to limit your alcohol intake as much as you can. We’re not saying you’re not allowed to drink, but make sure you take a day off drinking once every so often — your belly will thank you for it!

Eat Clean, Healthy Foods

This rule applies all year round, but with the good weather, you’re more likely to be having a BBQ in the park or heading to the beach. Try to prepare ahead of time and take some healthy snacks with you, rather than relying on the take away food stands that are always closest to the beaches.

Train Early Before It Gets Too Hot

Australia is known for it’s hot weather and great beaches but training is 40° weather is a recipe for disaster. Try to schedule your training sessions early in the day before it gets too hot. We run morning boot camp training sessions six days a week which are perfect for beating the summer heat.

Drink Water — Lots of Water

You should be keeping yourself hydrated already, but it’s especially important in summer. Make sure you drink more water on your training days to ensure you can train without risking cramps or dehydration.

Wear Sunscreen

Get outside and enjoy the weather! Train hard, eat healthy but above all else, have fun! But remember, wear sunscreen!
