Melbourne Training Events in September

A great way to motivate yourself to train is to set goals, but what most people get wrong is how to set goals.

Setting Achievable Goals

No-one is going to argue with having goals like “I want to lose weight” or “I want to get fitter”, but with such open-ended goals, it’s hard to measure your progress against these type of goals. How do you know when you’ve made it if there isn’t something specific to measure?

In order to set achievable goals, you need to be more specific. “I want to lost 15kg” or “I want to be able to run 5km in under 30 minutes” are goals that can be measured and when you can know the satisfaction of achieving a goal, it’s a great feeling!

I often recommend my clients sign up to local events — fun runs, tough mudder, sporting teams — because they provide two very important details: a specific goal, and a deadline for achieving that goal. If you sign up to a 5km fun run in September, then you know than you know what you have to achieve, and when you have to achieve it by.

Here are a couple of the events coming up in September, but if you know of anything else that people might be interested, make sure you mention it on our Facebook page. If it’s a team event, you can probably find some other people at our training sessions who’d be interested in doing it as well.
