Boxing for Fitness

Cardio workouts can be a boring and mundane experience but boxing for fitness is a great alternative, and I’m going to tell you why!

It’s a full body workout

Most people wrongfully assume that boxing is a workout for arms, and not much else — this couldn’t be further from the truth!

When first beginning with boxing for fitness, you’ll most likely be training in a stationary position, while your training partner holds the pads for you to hit. As you improve your coordination, you can integrate movements into the routine, or alternative bodyweight exercises. Some possible combinations could be:

  • Your target holder moves around, forcing you to constantly switch positions to ensure you’re within range, and facing the targets
  • Combining punching combinations — jab/cross for example — with a squat or push-up in between

It’s Great Fun!

Variety is the spice of life and adding boxing to your fitness training is a good way to change things up a bit. You can work with your partner and push each other to train harder and faster.

Training Partners Motivate Each Other

We’re all guilty of slacking off at times, and that’s when you need someone to give you the push to go a little harder, faster and longer. Your training partner who is holding the pads should be able to motivate you when you get tired or lazy.

Tone your muscles

While boxing is a great cardio workout, it also helps with muscle toning for your arms. You’ll also improvement you agility and coordination. With practice, you’ll learn how to improve your technique and punch harder and faster, and that’s a good skill to learn.

No Expensive Training Equipment Necessary

The only equipment you’ll need to train is a pair of boxing gloves and punching pads. You can buy these quite cheap, and even the split the cost with your friends if you like to train together often.
